A few weeks ago, if someone had asked me which platform I would use for my next website, I probably would have answered WordPress without much hesitation.
After all, WordPress powers a huge portion of the internet. It has thousands of themes, plugins, and almost unlimited customization.
Ironically, when it came time to start AI Workbench Lab, I chose Google Blogger instead.
At first, even I questioned that decision.
But the more I thought about it, the more it made sense.
Building a Website Isn't the Hard Part
Over the past few months, I've spent countless hours building websites.
One project involved creating a healthcare website from scratch using modern development tools. That meant working with SEO, Google Search Console, structured data, deployment, performance optimization, and continuous improvements.
I genuinely enjoyed the process.
But I also learned something important.
Building a website is exciting.
Maintaining it is another story.
Updates, plugins, hosting, security, backups, performance issues... those things never really stop.
For a business website, that's perfectly reasonable.
For a brand-new blog, I wasn't convinced it was the best place to spend my energy.
I Wanted to Focus on Writing
When I looked back at the blogs I personally enjoy reading, I realized something.
I never visited them because of their beautiful themes.
I visited because they consistently published useful content.
That completely changed how I approached this project.
Instead of asking,
"Which platform has the most features?"
I started asking,
"Which platform will help me publish consistently?"
The answer surprised me.
It was Blogger.
Why Blogger Made Sense
Starting with Blogger removed a lot of unnecessary decisions.
No hosting.
No plugin updates.
No server maintenance.
No worrying about whether an update would break my website.
Everything simply worked.
That gave me something much more valuable than fancy features.
It gave me time.
Time to write.
Time to learn.
Time to experiment.
WordPress Is Still Amazing
Don't get me wrong.
I still think WordPress is one of the best platforms available.
If you're running a business website, selling products, building memberships, or creating an online store, WordPress is incredibly powerful.
In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if AI Workbench Lab eventually moves there.
But I don't believe you need the perfect platform before publishing your first article.
Sometimes, simplicity wins.
What I Learned
One lesson keeps coming back to me.
It's surprisingly easy to spend weeks designing the perfect website.
It's much harder to sit down and write helpful articles every week.
I realised I could spend another month choosing themes and tweaking layouts...
Or I could start writing today.
I chose to write.
My Advice
If you're trying to decide between Blogger and WordPress, ask yourself one question.
Where will your time create the most value?
If you're just starting and want to build the habit of publishing consistently, Blogger is an excellent place to begin.
If your blog grows and eventually needs more flexibility, moving to WordPress later is always an option.
Platforms can change.
Your content stays with you.
Final Thoughts
Looking back, I don't think the biggest decision was choosing Blogger or WordPress.
The biggest decision was finally pressing Publish.
Because every successful blog starts with a first post.
And then another.
I'm looking forward to seeing where this journey takes me.
